My name is Melissa
Saltness. I am a licensed psychotherapist with a private practice
in Denver, Colorado since 2001. My office is conveniently located
to serve Denver and surrounding metropolitan cities.
If you are having
problems with stress or anxiety; depression; grief/loss; bipolar
disorder and/or mood swings; addiction; an eating disorder; obsessions/compulsions;
a spiritual or existential crisis; or if you have a minor problem
with your job or a relationship; counseling can be very helpful.
I can help you gain awareness and insight into whatever difficulties
you may be experiencing, as well as changing self-sabotaging behavior,
irrational beliefs and destructive thoughts.
If you feel
you need relationship counseling or marriage counseling, don't wait
until it's too late. I can help by teaching you mindfulness-based
communications techniques, by identifying false assumptions and
misunderstandings, and by helping you and your partner to understand
that every experience we have changes us in a subtle or overt way
and that we do have the capability to transform ourselves; therefore
it is not healthy to hold onto past resentments and judgments.
Unhealthy psychological
thoughts and beliefs take their toll and eventually cause us to
become disillusioned, unmotivated and unhappy and these states of
being can affect many aspects of our lives such as our job or relationships.
Being unhappy takes a lot of energy and it is negative, non-renewable
energy. Everyone has their ups and downs and we all deal with problems
and stresses in our lives, but we can still appreciate and enjoy
our existence. I help my clients achieve a healthy, balanced life.

Sometimes, a
stressful life event or a series of minor events can trigger depression,
but depression can also occur spontaneously, with no identifiable
specific cause. Whatever the cause, depression can be managed by
changing your thought processes, through lifestyle changes, and/or
with medication.

Recurrent mood
disorders are equally common among men and women. Some people have
mood alterations between depression and mania or irritability, or
a mix of both. During manic episodes patients may have elevated
mood, decreased need for sleep, rapid speech, extreme involvement
in pleasurable activities, and may be easily distracted. Some people
experience dysphoric episodes instead of euphoric episodes.
